M.I. Pylypenko, born on May 9, 1937, is Doctor of Science (Medicine), Professor, Corresponding Member of Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, Meritorious Science Worker of Ukraine. He occupies the chair of Radiology and Radiation Medicine at Kharkiv National Medical University.

Professor M.I. Pylypenko is a doctor of higher qualification; he devoted almost 50 years of his work as a physician to diagnostic and therapeutic work at leading hospitals of Kharkiv. For the recent decades he has headed consultation board on oncology of the Institute hospital.

M.I. Pylypenko is a member of Medical Council of Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the head of Problem Commission “Medical Radiology” of Ministry of Health of Ukraine and Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, a member of National Commission on Population Radiation Protection of Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the founder (1993) and editor-in-chief of “Ukrainian Journal of Radiology”, a member of editorial council of “Europian Journal of Nuclear Radiology”, “Medical Radiology and Radiation Safety” (Russia), “International Medical Journal”, a member of Radiology Society of North America, European Society of Therapeutic Radiologists and Oncologists and European Society of Nuclear Medicine.

He was the founder of Ukrainian Society of Radiation Oncologists (1999).
